The Future of Myeloma Care
In his blog, IMF Chairman of the Board Dr. Brian G.M. Durie assesses the future for myeloma patients by exploring the history of myeloma treatments — from chemotherapy to immunomodulatory drugs (iMiDs) and proteasome inhibitors, to newer immune therapies. He discusses new immune therapies at length and their upcoming role in the treatment of the disease. Dr. Durie is optimistic that a major leap forward in myeloma therapy is most likely, with the introduction of new immune therapies in patients at the earlier stage of the disease, and the possibility of lasting benefits — potentially allowing continued remission without the need for additional or ongoing maintenance therapy. Indeed, the future is looking bright for myeloma care.
