Masks, social distancing, and asymptomatic spread may seem like 2020 buzzwords. But these concepts would have been familiar to those who lived through the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. IMF Chairman Dr. Brian G.M. Durie highlights two books that feature fascinating historical parallels and intriguing analytic strategies to help guide us through today’s pandemic.

Join IMF Chairman of the Board Dr. Brian G.M. Durie, IMF Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Mikhael, and Michigan State University clinician Dr. Craig Cole for a discussion about current trends in myeloma. These myeloma experts focus on research from the 2020 American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting and the 2020 European Hematology Association annual meeting, both of which were recently held online.
Update: COVID-19 Emergency Food Assistance Grant Amount Changed
Team Rubicon and the Patient Advocate Foundation have partnered to provide emergency food assistance to those who have cancer, multiple sclerosis, or rheumatoid arthritis, and have been affected by COVID-19. As of July 1, 2020, the one-time financial assistance grant for those in need of financial assistance to purchase food has been changed to $300 per recipient, in order to increase its total reach. The COVID-19 Emergency Food Assistance Program is supported by the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation.

The BOSTON trial is the first phase III study to evaluate the clinical benefit of Xpovio® (selinexor), Velcade® (bortezomib), and dexamethasone (SVd) for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma. In this video, Dr. Meletios A. Dimopoulos (University of Athens — Athens, Greece) explains that this study was designed to determine if SVd improves progression-free survival (PFS), overall response rates (ORR), and reduces the rate of peripheral neuropathy.
Calling All Researchers: Submit Your Grant Applications 
The Brian D. Novis Research Grants are awarded to researchers working in the field of multiple myeloma and related disorders, including smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM), monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), and immunoglobulin-derived amyloidosis. The 2021 grants will support senior research projects with $80,000 each and junior research projects with $50,000 each. The deadline to receive the applications is Saturday, August 1, 2020.
