Nancy's Myeloma Journey
I was diagnossed with Multiple Myeloma in March 2008. As with most people who are diagnosed with a cancer, especially one that they've never heard of, I was quite surprised. I had to learn a whole new language to figure out what was going on with me and to make sense of what my oncologist was recommending. In the process I have learned so much about the importance of research for developing new treatments for myeloma, for understanding myeloma and how it acts and for basic scientific research that leads us to a better understanding of how things develop. Because of this I have committed myself to raising money for myeloma research through this 5k event. I have also committed myself to helping others newly diagnosed with this incurable cancer to believe and hope that they will continue to live relatively normal lives in spite of theif diagnosis.
11 years, a very knowledgeable and caring treatment team, and good response to treatment later I am still here living my life. Please consider joining my team, Cell Dancers, to run/walk and/or donate to my team so that we can all contribute to the funding of much needed research in cancer. Now is of utmost importance since the climate for funding cancer research has changed in the last few years.
I hope to see you on April 27 at Memorial Hall for a wonderful event,
P.S. 2018 was a particularly rough year for me with treatments for myeloma, leukemia and being diagnosed with septicemia that has changed how I can manage my life. So, it is more important to me this year that money is raised for cancer research.
