Support the Burn Pits Accountability Act

Dear [Decision Maker],

I support H.R. 663 and S. 191, the Burn Pits Accountability Act. I am asking for your support on this important piece of legislation.

For many veterans, the idea that something they were exposed to during their time in service could one day cause them to develop a disease like cancer is a far-off thought. The reality, however, is much closer to home for some veterans who discover an instance of myeloma, a blood cancer, decades earlier than the average patient. For this reason, researchers have become interested in the effects of burn pits used during the wars in Iraqi and Afghanistan.

The International Myeloma Foundation, through its Veterans Against Myeloma (VAM) program, of which I am a member, supports the research into the effects of burn pits on the health of our veterans. We are asking you to support the Burn Pits Accountability Act for this reason.

This legislation both protects current service members from potential adverse health effects later in life through earlier diagnosis, as well as advances research on the effects of burn pits. I ask for your support on this bill.
