Robert Van Horn
Robert Gordon Van Horn was born January 25, 1949 in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Richardson, TX where Robert attended and graduated from Richardson High School in 1967. He went on to study Electrical Engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he earned a BSEE in 1972. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy where he began as a Surface Warfare Officer. He then served as a Deck Division Officer on the USS Little Rock and served several reserve trips to South Korea and Retired as a USN Navy in 1995. After the Navy, he became a dedicated employee of Rockwell Collins where he worked for over 29 years as a project engineer. He worked on many hardware, software and system design projects, including managing a large group of fellow engineers. He fully retired in 2006 and began to enjoy many adventures to come.
Bob had a love of all things outdoors and all types of adventures including, hiking, fishing, and most of all cycling. He participated in RAGBRAI for many years. He enjoyed touring the country in his Tesla, Trixie I and Trixie II. He had many fun, great adventures and stories to tell.
He also had a love for all things sweet, including chocolate chip cookies, m&ms and ice cream. He also loved a good Texas Ruby Red grapefruit.
Bob was a member of the Antioch Church in Marion, Iowa, and was baptized in 2019. He now resides with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
