William “Ted” Cox was born on January 24, 1955, in Oklahoma City, OK, and passed away on March 11, 2020. Ted was born to William “Virgil” Cox and Ernestine Ferguson Cox.
Ted attended Midwest City High School and graduated in 1973. He was the first round draft pick by the Boston Red Sox in 1973. He also played with the Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays. Ted’s record setting major league debut of six hits in his first six at bats is still standing after 43 years.
Ted is survived by his wife of 46 years, Debbie Cox; mother, Ernestine Cox; children, Joey Cox and wife Samantha, Billy Cox and wife Katie and grandsons, Carter and Cole; sister, Luana Albright and husband George and children Staci and Clay; foster son, Milen Darby and wife Gina and children M.J., Makye, Malachi, Giana and Tyrell; and his half sister, Sydney Gard and family.
